Looking at the kinds of bacteria in a patient’s mouth can quickly alert us to the presence of high-risk bacteria, and with today’s technology, we can do that much earlier than was possible a few years ago.
In 2017, we equipped our office with a state-of-the-art Phase Contrast Video Microscope, which allows us to analyze bacteria and, within minutes, discuss our findings with patients. If an infection is present, we will discuss the treatment options available, explaining the benefits of each to help patients make the best treatment decision for them based on their needs and financial situation. Available treatments include traditional methods such as surgery, as well as newer alternative options such as anti-infective combinations of professional and home care. Taking into account all of the information presented, the final decision is always left to the patient.
